Tim Dempsey

Tim was born and raised in Peoria, IL. In 1980 he graduated from Peoria Central high school where he was an all conference soccer, team captain and MVP. There he was also track team all area honor roll in 4x800 relay and selected to the United States Collegiate Wind Bands as a saxaphone player for a concert tour of Europe following senior his year
From 1980 to 1983 Tim attended Marycrest College in Davenport, Iowa as a Social Work Major. During this time he was a student athletic trainer, a starter on the soccer team and a middle distance runner on the track team. In 1983 Tim transferred to St. Ambrose University, also in Davenport, Iowa, where he graduated with a BA in Sociology in 1985. Here he continued his work as a student athletic trainer. He was also track team captain and cross country MVP.
Starting in 1985 Tim spent nine years doing various social work and YMCA youth programming across the country. He held camp director positions working with high risk inner city youth in gang prevention and teen age parent programs. He worked in numerous cities including Peoria IL, Annapolis MD, Charlotte NC, Dallas TX, Atlanta GA, Jacksonville FL, Birmingham AL. He even spent one summer in Nigeria as the Assistant Director for the YMCA of Nigeria National Youth Camp.
In 1995 Tim moved to Puebla, Mexico to work as a Strength and Conditioning Coach and the Head Track Coach for the Universidad Popular Autonoma del Estado de Puebla (UPAEP). Then in 1999 he started working as an Athletic Trainer and Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Universidad del las Americas (UDLA) also located in Puebla, Mexico. After working at UDLA for a year, in 2000, Tim got jobs as a Strength and Speed Coach for NFL Europe wide receivers Marco Martos and Carlos Rosado and as a Strength Coach for the Mexican National Junior Men’s Basketball Team. Various men and women athletes Tim had the privilege of working with in Mexico went on to play for national teams of Mexico, Costa Rica and Nicaragua. Also during his time in Mexico he had the opportunity to present strength and conditioning seminars throughout the Puebla and Tlaxcala regions.
When Tim moved back to the states in 2000 he beagan working at AXIS Performance Center, in Menlo Park as a Master Trainer and Team Leader. From 2001 to 2003 he worked as the Head Track and Cross Country Coach for Menlo College. During this time Tim kept his position at AXIS and stayed there until 2005 when he came to the Riekes Center.
Today Tim is an avid bike commuter and basketball player and is a competitive Master Track Athlete at the 400 meters. He has two daughters Becky and Rosy.
