Sky Snyder
Nature Studies and Creative Arts
“Skynote” Sky Snyder was born and raised far out of cell phone reach in Fall River Mills, Northeastern California. He grew up with his hands in the dirt or gripped around the top branches of the tallest trees. Upon completing his small town explorations he left for Chico where he received his degree and teaching credential at Chico State. Sky's college summers were spent working at outdoor camps across America. After graduating college Sky chose to hike along the Pacific Crest Trail. In his efforts to complete this trail from Mexico to Canada Sky has hiked a total of 1,400 miles in two summer-long hikes. Sky continued on to teach ecology and natural science at the West Minister Environmental Education Center in Occidental CA where he focused his studies on mycology (the study of fungus), permaculture, conservation ecology and vermaculture (worm composting). If you see Sky at the Riekes Center (or anywhere else for that matter) ask him to play a song for you on the Ukulele, tell you a story with the Didgeridoo, or have him show you the new vermacomposting unit (worm bin) behind the Riekes Center.
"The Riekes Center drew me in because of the diversity of interests being perused here. I see the Riekes Center as a place for people to pursue their passions and spread their enthusiasm through mentoring."
